So football is back once again, and Arsenal kicked it off with Sunderland.
Walcott Made his first start of the season in Arshavin's place with Rosicky continueing in the side. Eboue came in for Sagna at right back and my my, he's really workin' it well.
Suck that Emmanuel Adebayor. This is how you win fans over.
I think Wenger subbed him off for lil Jack for the applause.
Gibbs came on for Clichy who picked up a knock during the international break and did quite well.
The biggest surprise in the line-up is Wenger keeping faith in Mannone.
Love love love.
And Almunia was friggin sulking on the bench.
The game started off like any of our home games and we were relatively comfortable. A fantastic finish by Van Persie put us in front so early in the game. That is hugely welcomed. Then minutes later, a cross from my Rosicky was met by Diaby and it was 2-0 in the first 18 minutes.
Alex McLeish probably screamed for a respone from Birmingham and they were gifted a cheap goal. Mannone could have done a lot better to be more aggressive in his own penalty box instead of looking for the foul that might not come. Anyhow, that could have played into his head that he wasn't good enough etc but it didn't happen because he redeemed himself more than one nearing the end of the second half.
The bottomline is, a good goalkeeper can be the difference in games and we don't exactly have one that is solid enough. Mannone is doing fantastic but he's still one for the future and a club like Arsenal needs a top top top class keeper between the sticks.
Birmingham caused us problems. Maybe it was Carson Yeung in the stands. I don't know. But they upped their game and gave us a run for our money.
I didn't like the challenge on Theo but things like that happen. Football is a physical game. I just hope it doesn't keep him out for too long again. He adds so much to this team.
We may not have the keeper to make the difference, but we have Arshavin. That was the slack-est goal I've ever seen but he sealed the win so well. It looked almost effortless and this understanding with Cesc has to grow well so they can link up to produce magic such as this.
RVP did well again too, and he looks like he's becoming stronger and stronger in that role leading the line. He got a goal again today, and it so easily could have been 2 had he not smashed the free kick in the penalty box against the cross bar. He has a knack for hitting the post.
Another dude who did very well was Diaby. He got his head down and supported Song when he could and went forward and got into good positions, one of which led to the second goal. He could have gotten our fourth but unfortunately, Joe Hart's positioning made it not possible.
All in all, another good day at the office and with the fixtures coming thick and fast, it's always welcomed to get all 3 points to get it all started.
A trip to Holland in midweek.
